R.L. Boyce

  • Born August 15, 1955, and resided in Como, Mississippi.

  • Awarded National Endowment for the Arts 2023 National Heritage Fellow.

  • Introduced to North Mississippi's Hill Country Blues by his cousin, R.L. Burnside and Fred McDowell.

  • Played drums in his Uncle Othar Turner’s Rising Stars Fife and Drum Band for 30 years.

  • Picked up guitar in the 1980’s and released debut album in 2013.

  • Received 2017 Grammy Nomination for Best Traditional Blues Album for Roll and Tumble.

  • Performed in Europe and in several documentaries highlighting Northern MS musicians.
